אִישׁ אֱלֹקים A man of G-d

קָדוֹשׁ הוּא holy he was

אַשְׁרֵי עַיִן Happy is the eye

רָאַתְהוּ that saw him
לֵב חָכָם  wise heart

יַשְׂכִּיל פִּיהוּ spoke intelligently

Boldly and independently בְּעֹז וְתַעֲצוּמוֹת 
Ascended great heights  עָלָה מַעֲלוֹת רָמוֹת

אֲדוֹנֵנוּ בַּר יוֹחַאי

Hid in a cave  הֻחְבָּא בְּתוֹךְ מְעָרָה

Because he was wanted  מִפְּנֵי הַגְּזֵרָה
