1 Kings 9:3 - Attention and Love

 בס"ד

From 1 Kings 5:26 to 9:9 is the story of the building of the first Temple by King Solomon. After that the Tanach fades into different subjects. It's also brought in the book of Chronicles with some variations. At the conclusion of the building G-d speaks to Shlomo. Three points are made. The first is that G-d is sanctifying the Beis Midrash to His name and His eyes and his heart will be on it constantly (see 1 Kings 9:3).

Sanctifying: language of marriage. The metaphor can be expanded on.

To his name: Examples 1. The woman takes the name of her husband so too the Temple takes on the name of G-d.  2. An educational institution puts its name on a student by giving them a certificate that is used as a mark of distinction.

Eyes: Language of attention

Heart: Emotions especially love and concern

What this means is that the Temple will always be considered as a religious shrine particularly among the Jews. It will also be the focus of attention that is often emotional.
